In recent years, there has been considerable discussion within the domestic wire and cable industry regarding specialty cables. This is primarily due to their higher profit margins and higher barriers to entry. Higher profit margins allow companies to maximize their economic gains, while the higher barriers to entry enable large, well-established wire and cable manufacturers to fully leverage their technological and financial advantages, avoiding direct competition with smaller, medium-sized cable manufacturers based on similar products and low prices. However, the Chinese specialty cable market, or rather the high-end cable market, is almost entirely monopolized by foreign-owned and joint-venture companies. Coupled with my country's unique consumer preference for imports, domestically produced specialty cables have not been able to fully capitalize on their "high quality, low price" advantage in the competitive market.
Within the specialty cable sector, environmentally friendly materials, aluminum alloy cables, aluminum rare earth optimization treatments, carbon fiber cables, high-temperature superconducting technology, and "thin and compact manufacturing processes" have all seen significant development in recent years. Furthermore, market trends indicate a bright future for these technologies in the coming years. We also have reason to believe that as domestic cable manufacturers increase their R&D efforts in these technologies (processes) and produce qualified products, they can, to some extent, change the situation where China's high-end cable market is dominated by foreign companies, and contribute to the growth and strengthening of China's wire and cable industry.
First, let's understand environmentally friendly materials. In fact, the development of environmentally friendly materials is in line with market demand and responds to national calls. Currently, the production of wires and cables uses a large amount of high-molecular chemical materials such as rubber, polyvinyl chloride, and polyethylene. This production process generates a large amount of toxic and harmful gases. Therefore, it is necessary to actively develop environmentally friendly materials and produce environmentally friendly wires and cables. After developing environmentally friendly wires and cables, Japanese cable companies such as Fujikura actively promoted the government to issue environmentally friendly wire and cable product standards in order to monopolize the market. In recent years, the sales share of environmentally friendly wires and cables has expanded dramatically, and ordinary wires and cables and flame-retardant wires and cables simply cannot compete with them. In addition, the scraps generated during the wire and cable production process can be directly recycled and reused.
Furthermore, aluminum alloy cables have been a hot topic for years, primarily because the cable industry is heavily reliant on materials and labor, and the high price of copper, a key raw material, has consistently resulted in high cable production costs. To address this, China has actively introduced well-developed aluminum alloy cable production technology from abroad, hoping to change the current situation of excessively high cable production costs. Moreover, the conductivity of aluminum alloy cables is comparable to that of copper-core cables, while their flexibility is superior. This overcomes the shortcomings of traditional pure aluminum cables, such as poor mechanical strength, low fatigue resistance, and susceptibility to joint accidents, ensuring the continuous stability of cable connections under prolonged overload and overheating conditions. It also compensates for the memory effect and high rebound performance of traditional copper cables, reducing line loss. In addition, from raw material production, processing, and manufacturing to transportation, installation, operation, and recycling, aluminum alloy cables offer unparalleled economic and environmental advantages over traditional copper-core cables, making them the best alternative to copper cables to date.
Meanwhile, aluminum rare earth optimization treatment is currently a popular technology in the cable industry. As is well known, the production of electrical aluminum rods using continuous casting and rolling processes is quite common in China, and the performance is good. However, due to the equipment still being at the level of the early 1970s, there has been little technological innovation. Therefore, it is necessary to actively promote my country's unique aluminum rare earth optimization technology, and utilize some imported key specialized equipment and technologies to add aluminum-zirconium alloys, transforming coal-fired aluminum melting furnaces into oil-fired or natural gas-fired aluminum melting furnaces, completely eliminating the emission of coal dust and flue gas from coal-fired aluminum melting furnaces, and installing flue gas filtration devices to purify the flue gas, improve emission quality, increase yield, reduce costs, and at the same time increase the conductor operating temperature from 70℃ to 150℃, increasing the current carrying capacity by 1.6 times.
